About I live and work in San Francisco, would it be worth it to move to Ft myerers FL

I live and work in San Francisco, would it be worth it to move to Ft myerers FL?
I make $38.50/hr here but the same job in Ft. Myers only payes $25.50/hr. Just on that alone can anyone say where i'd be getting more bang for my buck and is this comperable pay due to cost of living etc? Thanks.

If you have a home to sell in San Fran, and can sell it, you can probably get a good deal in Ft. Myers. and you don't have to pay state income taxes in Fla. But if you're just renting you don't get the tax deduction of mortgage interest. Rents in Ft. Meyers are probably lower than San Fran, but food and clothes, electricity and phone would be the same.

It would be a minor improvement to move to Florida. The cost of living is alot cheaper, as San Fran is one of the most expensive places in the country. You can see the difference with this cost of living calculator. http://cgi.money.cnn.com/tools/costofliving/costofliving.html?step=result¤t_salary=80000&fromStateMenu=CA&from_city=San+Francisco+CA&toStateMenu=FL&to_city=Fort+Myers-Cape+Coral+FL&x=41&y=13 With your current salary you are making $80,000 and a comparable salary in Florida would be $50,000, but you'll be making $53,000 which is better. It would be a slight raise, but about the same. Would you want to live in Florida? Would you be happier there? If so, I'd go. Oh, and it will knock you into a lower tax bracket with Federal taxes, which are the same rate in California even though it takes more to live, so you should pay less tax living in Florida. Not to mention, since Florida does not have a state income tax, you'll save a lot of money there!

HI! Lived in So cal 4 14 years, San Fran many trips, current Ft Myers 7 years. Expect to loose at least 1/3 comp pay. Ft M currently bad economy, lots foreclosures and job loss, do not know your field, no further comment on that. Houses going cheap and getting cheaper, you could afford one, however don't move just for bang! Lifestyle and happiness more important. Don't know your age but it would be a big,HUGE culture shock living here. good luck, JERRY.
