About I live and work in San Francisco, would it be worth it to move to Ft myerers FL

I live and work in San Francisco, would it be worth it to move to Ft myerers FL?
I make $38.50/hr here but the same job in Ft. Myers only payes $25.50/hr. Just on that alone can anyone say where i'd be getting more bang for my buck and is this comperable pay due to cost of living etc? Thanks.

People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
If you have a home to sell in San Fran, and can sell it, you can probably get a good deal in Ft. Myers. and you don't have to pay state income taxes in Fla. But if you're just renting you don't get the tax deduction of mortgage interest. Rents in Ft. Meyers are probably lower than San Fran, but food and clothes, electricity and phone would be the same.
Answer 2 :
It would be a minor improvement to move to Florida. The cost of living is alot cheaper, as San Fran is one of the most expensive places in the country. You can see the difference with this cost of living calculator. http://cgi.money.cnn.com/tools/costofliving/costofliving.html?step=result¤t_salary=80000&fromStateMenu=CA&from_city=San+Francisco+CA&toStateMenu=FL&to_city=Fort+Myers-Cape+Coral+FL&x=41&y=13 With your current salary you are making $80,000 and a comparable salary in Florida would be $50,000, but you'll be making $53,000 which is better. It would be a slight raise, but about the same. Would you want to live in Florida? Would you be happier there? If so, I'd go. Oh, and it will knock you into a lower tax bracket with Federal taxes, which are the same rate in California even though it takes more to live, so you should pay less tax living in Florida. Not to mention, since Florida does not have a state income tax, you'll save a lot of money there!
Answer 3 :
HI! Lived in So cal 4 14 years, San Fran many trips, current Ft Myers 7 years. Expect to loose at least 1/3 comp pay. Ft M currently bad economy, lots foreclosures and job loss, do not know your field, no further comment on that. Houses going cheap and getting cheaper, you could afford one, however don't move just for bang! Lifestyle and happiness more important. Don't know your age but it would be a big,HUGE culture shock living here. good luck, JERRY.

About I'm Irish and I want to go work in San Francisco? What's the procedure

I'm Irish and I want to go work in San Francisco? What's the procedure?
I'm a 25 year old irish web developer seeking to move to San Fran to work. I know a Green card is essential, but is there any form of visa I can get to go work there for a year? Any info?
Immigration - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Apply in a US company and when accepted request for the employment contract then use this in applying for a working visa.
Answer 2 :
You will need to find a US company that is willing to sponsor you, which costs them money. They will have to assert that you have a unique skill or experience which is not found in employees who are already here. You will end up with a work permit, which is not the same as a green card at all, which will allow you to work in the US for several years before having to re-apply, at which point you could still be turned down.

About where can a 14 year old work in San Francisco

Where can a 14 year old work in San Francisco?
I know I can do odd jobs like babysitting and dog walking, but I just can't find that in the city. I would rather have something more professional like working in an actual store. What are my options? Where can I work?
San Francisco - 4 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Work on Lombard.
Answer 2 :
Most major retailer will not hire anyone under the age of 16. You might have better luck if you try a small retail store in your neighborhood. Dog walking could actually be good work for you. Start your own business you can make as much as $30 per dog per day.
Answer 3 :
this website might help you http://jobstar.org/adjobs/summer.php
Answer 4 :
Apply to be a High School Explainer at the Exploratorium. http://www.exploratorium.edu/programs/explainer/ The people who run the program are pretty cool. You can probably get away with calling them about the job on a date other than the 3 listed.

About do I need a car if I live in daly city and work in san francisco

Do I need a car if I live in daly city and work in san francisco?
Im moving to San Francisco and im thinking if I should bring my car with me. Please advise on other cities in the SF bay area where a car is needed or not. thanks. I am thinking about moving to the bay area and ultimately find a hospital job in SF. Please advise on a neighboring city that is a decent commute and wether a car is needed or not at all, (I have daly city on top of my list). Thanks.
San Francisco - 3 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
BART does travel from daly city to sf. But it depends on how far you live from it. If you work in the city, you will want to take public transportation, unless your office building has free parking (which it will not). Parking in SF sucks! However, I would have a car if you plan to go anywhere else. There are fantastic sights to see all over SF and CA. If I were you, I would keep the car at your house, and use it for non-work/non-downtown things. Like Tahoe, Monterey, San Diego, etc., etc., etc. Also, many executive jobs in SF require you to network at places/meetings throughout the Bay Area, including the East Bay. BART is a great resource, but I would want a car if I ever planned to leave downtown SF. You can live without a car in any city in the Bay Area that has BART. Also, there are buses, trolley cars in SF, and the bay ferries. Bikes, feet. However, if you plan to venture out, you'll need a car. check out the bart map... www.BART.gov
Answer 2 :
There is pretty good transportion in the city, and communites close to San Francisco. The real problem with driving your own car is that parking is extremely limited and VERY expensive, especially if you commute every day and stay for several hours. Research the bus, train and light rail lines before you move. (Samtrans, CalTrain, SFMuni, BART) If you manage to locate your home near one of these lines and work reasonably close to one, you'll be much happier taking public trans. Many people take a combination of public transportation and bicycle.
Answer 3 :
So you want to work in SF but not live there, eh? So you're considering Daly City, eh? Has anyone told you about the fog? Do you like the fog? You must really like the fog to live there! Daly City has a respectable transit system with BART train service and SamTrans bus service. However, Daly City itself has a mid-century car-oriented flavor to it. That means you can live okay without a car, but life would be easier with one. If you don't want a car and are feeling flexible about locale, I suggest looking to Oakland or Berkeley. Both cities were developed prior to WWII, which means that, unlike Daly City, it is *very* easy to walk, bike, or take public transit everywhere! BART trains operate in both cities, and AC Transit is the bus operator there. Other perks of living in Oakland or Berkeley include nicer weather, respectable rental prices, and a vast array of bus and train lines connecting EVERY neighborhood in both cities directly to San Francisco. That's something that can't be said about Daly City! Good luck.

About canadian citizen want to work in San Francisco

Canadian citizen want to work in San Francisco?
Hi, I am from Toronto, Canada and will be graduating soon with an Engineering degree with Canadian experience in the software industry. I want to move to San Francisco, and was wondering what is involved in acquiring a work visa. I am also wondering what the demand for software/systems engineers in San Francisco are and whether companies are likely to hire Canadians. Also, would an entry level software engineer be able to sustain a living in or around the bay area?
San Francisco - 1 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Wages are extremely high in San Francisco: http://www.indeed.com/salary?q1=Front-end+Software+Engineer+(AJAX)&l1=San+Francisco%2C+CA However, the job market is also highly competitive. And unlike in other parts of America, a formal education is essential in Northern California. Canadian university degrees are generally well regarded though. Your employer will handle the arrangements for a work visa. If you enter the United States as a tourist (on the 90 day visa waiver scheme) to look for a job, do not tell the immigration officer that you're seeking employment. Once you secure a job offer, you might have to return to Canada briefly... and then re-enter the United States with your work visa in hand. The easiest way to do this is via British Columbia. There are direct flights to San Francisco from Vancouver and Victoria

About Would it be reasonable to have a car in the East Bay area and work in San Francisco

Would it be reasonable to have a car in the East Bay area and work in San Francisco?
I have a lien on my car that I am still working to pay off. Many sites suggest that you don't need a car in the San Francisco area, but its not an option for me to get rid of it just yet (I'm one of many who are underwater with their car loan)... Do people live more frugally outside of SF and commute to work in the city? Would this prove a good reason to keep my car and still make the big move?
Personal Finance - -1 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
If you don't plan to venture outside of the SF area very much then you will be okay with the public transport (BART/AC Transit). If you want to travel outside of the bay area for distances like going from San Francisco to Oakland/San Jose/Tri-City etc... then you will definitely need a car. But from East Bay (Tri-City) Newark, Union City, Fremont area you will definitely need a vehicle to drive to San Francisco to work unless you want to take the BART. The BART can get you to San Francisco within about a little over an hour. The problem with the BART is if you want to park your car at the parking lot you will have to get there early (5-6 AM) or there will be no parking. You could also bike to the BART station if you don't want a car. If you're just focusing on working then you will most likely be okay without a vehicle. The only difficult part is when you want to go do other things than work like shopping, going to the beach, checking out new places etc... That's when sometimes a car maybe a lot better for you.

About What it's like to live in Pacifica and work in San Francisco

What it's like to live in Pacifica and work in San Francisco?
A friend and I are getting together to move down to Pacifica in July. I would like to work in San Francisco as a chef, she will be traveling. How is the commute via mass transit or car to and from? How is it to move into a pet friendly apartment or home? Where are the best places in Pacifica to look for housing if I need to be near mass transit via bus or train? Thank you all!
San Francisco - 5 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
The commute can be dense, though hooking up to 280 instead of 101 is better traffic-wise. You can take SamTrans to Daly City BART ( five-minute walk between the bus stop and BART station). You'd have to check the SamTrans bus routes to see about close housing. http://www.samtrans.com/ And for travel between specific addresses, use this: http://511.org
Answer 2 :
Sam Trans is the bus line that serves San Mateo County (where Pacifica is located). Many people live in Pacifica and work in SF. I believe you would need access to a car at least to take you to the BART station (or the end of the nearest SF MUNI bus line) where you can park your cat and hop on a bus which will take you to your job in the city. What about staying in Daly City or Broadmoor which is a little closer to the SF border? Depends where you will be working but many people also use Skyline and the Great Highway to get into SF from Pacifica. Often it's very foggy in Pacifica and I find it amazing how the people living in the area west of Skyline manage to navigate on the roadway despite what I perceive as poor visibility. Parking in the Outer Sunset or Outer Richmond might be good - depending on your job site.
Answer 3 :
Pacific is not very big in apartments. The area of Pacifica where houses are on the hillside above the ocean is called Linda Mar and is very nice. There is a Taco Bell right on the beach. The other rocky area overlooking the ocean is Pedro Point. The apartments are more in town which is not much of one. The commute is one of the best in the bay area coming from Hwy 1 to 280 into S.F. There is no other way to do it except drive to Daly City BART and park there. There may be a San Mateo county bus but I dont know. It is very quiet there.
Answer 4 :
Pacifica is not very big on apartments and their is very little public transit going into Pacifica and out. If you were to move to pacifica you would need a car just to drive to BART or something liek that. I would suggest moving to Daly City or Colma which is CLOSER to SF and its remotely closer to BART stations. Theirs a bunch of Apartments that are located close to Colma Bart, and their a bunch of Apartments near Daly City BART ... sounds like you dont want to live in San Francisco. But I think that would be a better idea. Unless your in love with the beaches in pacifica (which are usually foggy but on a nice day its pretty nice to go surfing) then I would suggest living in Daly City or something like that...
Answer 5 :
The commute can be a major nightmare

About How does the trolley system in San Francisco work

How does the trolley system in San Francisco work?
The trolley tracks in San Francisco are constantly making noise, even if there is no trolley car nearby. It sounds like there are metal rollers constantly rolling. What is going on, does it have something to do with how the car makes electrical contact?
San Francisco - 3 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
No electricity here! What you hear are the cables. Each Trolley is connected to an underground cable (These trolleys are also known as "cable cars") which pulls it up and down the hilly streets of San Francisco. Check out the link for all the fascinating details.
Answer 2 :
You must be referring to the Cable Car system which is a rare and unique operation. That system uses continuously moving underground cables that the cable car grabs onto as it moves along the tracks. There is an operator in each car known as a gripman who's job it is to work the lever system to grab and let go of the cables in order to move the vehicle. Other systems use either electricity or diesel propulsion to move the vehicles along the track. So, yes the mechanism is always moving!
Answer 3 :
It is a cable car, not a trolley....you are hearing the underground cables working.
